Two Great Jazz and Blues Singers Backed by Great Jazz Combos

FROM THE COVER NOTES:

"It isn't just the song or the voice of the singer, it's a combination of a great voice, outstanding selections, humorous wit and relaxed style .... that's Pearl Bailey. Whether you have seen her on television, watched her perform in the theatre or caught her act in a supper club, Miss Bailey has the gift of reaching her audience singularly, leaving you with the impression that the only other person present besides yourself is Pearl Bailey. Margie Anderson, Miss Bailey's colleague on this album, is in her own right as a top notch night club performer. With her unique style and fresh delivery, Margie's performances have earned her thunderous applause on numerous occasions."

For my own listening Margie Anderson was an ear-opener! Listen to her on "The Thrill is Gone" and you will have to admit she is a major jazz talent. With her husky voice and her spot-on vocal interpretation, she makes the song her own. For me, this record is Margie Anderson with Pearl Bailey

Of course Pearl Bailey is .... Pearl Bailey! ...the inimitable ...the irresistible ... a force of nature .... and one of the great jazz / blues vocalists of the twentieth century!

Just a word about the combos backing these jazz greats ... the musicians are uncredited .... maybe they are only a studio pick-up group, but they are laying down some great jazz - truly cooking! Listen to the lead sax...a major voice there and budget label or not - the music on this record is great. Wish I knew who these guys were.

Maybe you'll recognize them. Even if you don't - you're in for a treat.

DISC : No scratches .... no skips or stops .... plays clearly with a low amount of extraneous noise ....a few tics and pops and a fairly steady low background crackle ... still enjoyable worth the price of admission for the performances

NOT FOR THE AUDIOPHILE -- CORONET RECORDS was a budget label and did not produce records for the audiophile -- all the same, quite enjoyable.
