~~~ TURTLE medicine bag ~~~
TURTLE takes its wisdom one day at a time - not reacting, simply accepting and moving on in its natural methods. Turtles share an association with water, which lends meanings of motion, intuition and emotion to the myriad of more symbolic meanings of the turtle.
Butter soft, cream colored deerskin has been used for the body of this bag. The turtle applique is made from red and saddle colored deerskin and hand sewn using faux sinew. The bag itself, is hand stitched with Spanish Edge Lacing.
A wonderful bag honoring TURTLE. The applique holds a bone turtle fetish with coral bundle. Five strands of beads (symbolizing the spiritual meaning of NUMBER 5 which is travel and motion) that hold seed beads, coral glass, vintage Myrrh, bone hairpipe and Mother of Pearl. The side fringe holds new and vintage brass. The open top has a faux sinew braided hoop that hooks around a red coral bead.
The bag measures 4 1/4" across X 5 1/4" long. The inside measurements are 3 3/4" across X 5" long. The bottom fringe of beads adds 4" to the length. The braided strap is 46" and can be shortened by knotting. Signed and dated by the artist.
