The truth about this little tintype: I hope someone told this young lady that if she kept making that face, it would get stuck that way. A very small tintype portrait of a young woman with a long braid pulled over her shoulder. Her dress is pretty, with mutton chop sleeves and ribbon detail. The painted backdrop behind her looks like snow covered mountains. The only thing that marrs the pretty tranquility of the whole things is the look of stubborn boredom on her face. What's up with that?

This is a lovely, shabby old thing, an excellent addition to your Halloween decorations or props!

A few fine cracks in the emulsion, with one small crack opening up to show some rust underneath. Otherwise, the surface is very smooth and glossy. Good exposure.

These make great decor, especially as autumn and halloween are coming. Also great for crafts and art projects, or for making your imaginary family tree!

What is a tintype? An early photograph, from the last half of the 1800s. Light sensitive emulsion coating a thin piece of metal. Unlike modern photographic processes, this process did not create a negative, meaning that every tintype is one of a kind, completely unique! Tintypes are an important part of photographic history - their relative inexpensiveness and sturdiness made them available to a wider audience, making photography the most democratic of art processes!
