I made this purse from a vintage Japanese silk obi. It has a subtle metallic gold colored pattern of leaves and vines. The fabric is thick, stiff and strong, but makes a light weight purse.

The outer dimension measures 6.5 inches wide, which means once the seams are sewn, the interior dimension is about 5.5 inches. This purse is wide enough for a passport and a small folded wallet. I used a Japanese 5 yen coin and a brown horn bead to cover the sewing of the snap that holds the purse closed.

The strap is made from a soft yellow silk obijime, which is the narrow braided belt tied around an obi to hold the bow in place in the back. It is long enough for the purse to cross the body to hand length, with the tassels hanging down. I wear mine under my coat or jacket, which is quite comfortable.

This is a purse to give to someone you know who likes to travel, or shop without having to carry a heavy load.

Width: 6.5 inches (16.5 cm.) Height: 6.25 inches (16 cm.) Strap: 45 inches (114 cm.)
