This mixed media art collage is a pastoral scene in earth tones featuring a polymer clay sun embellished with beaded wire and a rooster.
This art collage is actually an assemblage made from a a 6 x 6 inch (15 x 15 cm) canvas. The surface of the canvas has been painted and inked, and then a 'window' has been cut out to create a shadow box diorama revealing a pastoral scene with a metal rooster silhouetted by the sunrise. The cut out piece of canvas has been rolled up and adorns the top. A polymer clay and wood sun is on the inside of the window (The original title of the piece was "Let the Sun Shine IN"). The sun is embellished with metallic fiber and thin wires in gold and red representing his rays. Droplets of sunshine in the form of sparkly beads adorn the wire - they slide delightfully back and forth when the piece is moved. The sun also wears a beaded 'headdress'. The words "Le Soleil" are stamped on sandpaper squares adhered to the canvas, and wood beads form the feet. Additional materials used in the piece are metal embellishments, felt, paper, glass glitter, and vintage lace and fabric.
This piece was featured in the September/October 2011 issue of Cloth Paper Scissors Magazine for mixed media art as a finalist in a competition using wire. (See photo #5)
This canvas is sturdy enough to stand on it's own (it measures 1 and 1/2 inches deep). If you would prefer to hang it, convo me and I will attach a hook on the back for you.
