"My grandparents had one just like this", I hear this over and over as people examine our hand made gourd water dippers. Made from a long handled dipper gourd this is a functional as well as a fine art piece. This one is plain with no fancy decoration. It has a wrist loop for hanging and is completely sealed inside with a mixture of bee's wax and paraffin. This mixture makes the dipper water proof and will not chip out as a paraffin lined gourd will. To prevent water from lodging in the handle a corn cob stopper has been glued in place and sealed with wax. The over-all length is 16 1/2 inches; the bowl measures 4 inches across and it is 2 1/2 inches deep
These dippers are often purchased for use in sweat lodges, drinking buckets or simply as art objects. They should be used with cold water only and should not be left standing in water but rather hung up when not in use.
