This is a 1935 edition of the fabulous book, "They All Sang" by Edwin B. Marks.

The excerpt from the front of the original dust jacket explains it all: 'A musical record of America through half a century, told in the lively memoirs of an old timer who knew them all -- the people who wrote our songs, the singers and performers, the places where they were heard from the Bowery to Broadway, the minstrels, burlesque queens, vaudeville stars, musical showfolk, movie and radio singer -- and all the songs they sang'

This book is wonderful. Pages upon pages of names, faces, songs & stories of entertainment icons and memories of yesteryear. Well over 50 illustrations fill the pages in this book too! It's for sure, a book that any lover of music would love.

The pictures show the original book jacket on the book. Sadly, after the second round of pictures - the jacket tore down the spine. It will still be included with the book when shipped though we will not attempt to tape it or repair it as that would devalue it even more should the new owner decide to try to have the cover professionally repaired. It should be noted (and can be seen) that the cover did have (has) many tears and shows heavy signs of use/age.

This book has a red linen cover. The spine of the book is beautiful with gold embossing of musical notes & instruments. It reads in gold, "They All Sang From Tony Pastor to Rudy Vallee" "Edward B. Marks" "Viking Press". The gold in the last part of the decoration at the bottom has worn and is now brown.

The book & its cover are in very good condition. All pages are intact & bound to the cover. I found no creased or torn pages (admittedly, I didn't check all 321 of them). The pages are slightly discolored (yellowed) from age. The front cover shows some wear on the corners & has a mark at the top front corner. The back cover has a few spots. It does have a slight musty odor and is now being stored in a Rubbermaid container with baking soda & a sweetgrass sachet.

It measures 6 1/4" x 10 /2" (15.9cm x 26.7cm) and weighs in at 2lbs 0.6oz.

This book would be a wonderful addition to the collector of vintage or entertainment books.
