This is a striking and beautiful pendant necklace made by Salvador Teran exclusively for the luxurious retailer Marbel in Mexico City in the late 1950s to early 1960s.

Salvador Teran is considered to be one of the greatest silversmiths of Mexico. His jewelry is highly sought after by collectors. A master designer and technician, Teran trained as a silversmith first with William Spratling and then with his cousins, the Los Castillos brothers for thirteen years. In 1952, he left Taxco and moved to Mexico City to open his own very successful workshop named "La India Bonita".

This pendant necklace is made from Teran's signature gold plated pot metal. The pendant is segmented and hinged. The topmost element is a gold crown shape that is textured. Below that is a smooth, gold more organically formed crown shape. Beneath are two crowns with one inverted. Between these two crowns is a three dimensional half moon shaped wedge of jade green glazed ceramic. From the bottom inverted crown hang four long jade green glazed ceramic tubes or batons capped with gold that move freely.

This pendant is suspended on a gold tone rope chain. The piece is signed "Marbel S.A. Mexico" on the reverse. It appears faint but readable.
