This is a lovely handworked canvas work seat cover in a Jacobean inspired design. It is fine canvas work of 16 threads to the inch. This piece was worked by a man in the 1960s as a seat cover and was removed from an Irish chippendale chair which was given to my grandparents. They were told that it had been worked by a male executive who found canvas work a therapeutic relaxation from his stressful job in the city.

The colours are still bright as the chair had been reupholstered in the 1980s protecting this lovely canvas work seat from light and dust. The background colour is a richer beige colour than the photographs show.

The condition of the worked area is excellent with no areas of wear but the hessian has a number of holes made by rusty nails where it was attached to the chair seat (see photo 5)

It could be reused as a seat cover or has many other potential uses.

It has been stored wrapped in acid free tissue paper and rolled and will be shipped rolled.

Dimensions of the worked area are 17.8 inches at the narrowest point to 22 inches at the widest by 16.7 inches long. (45 - 56 cm by 42.5 cm)

I am happy to combine shipping where feasible, please convo me for a price.

Frequently asked questions about Histoires

I am open to a layaway plan for more expensive items with a combined value of over $100 (including shipping). This way you can split your payments over a period of time between 1 and 3 months. We will agree the payments at the beginning and then your first payment reserves your item.

Please note that after you begin your payments I am unable to refund you or cancel the transaction as the item is reserved for you and unavailable for sale to anyone else. The item will stay on reserve until you finish your final payment.
I will consider offers on single or multiple purchases on any of my items. It's always worth asking me!

Don't forget that combining shipping on multiple purchases delivered to the same address can give significant savings.
The quickest and most reliable shipping I offer is using the Colissimo service. Shipping times with Colissimo are 5 - 8 working days from dispatch to delivery. If you want to add this service to your order please purchase the Colissimo upgrade.

If you want a quotation for a quicker service please contact me before your purchase as these services are very expensive.
Please always contact me via Etsy conversations, this way I can link your message easily to your order.

Once you have ordered, please continue to check your Etsy conversations, just in case I need any further information (such as a contact phone number) in order to ship your item.
I will combine shipping on multiple purchases wherever possible.

I can combine shipping with items in my vintage sewing supplies shop, Couturesse.

Please contact me if you want to purchase from both shops and I will set up a custom listing.

If you want an exact price for shipping on your order please contact me before you buy so that I can set up a custom listing for all the items you want with the correct shipping charge.

Please note that it is not always possible to combine shipping on large / heavy / fragile items as the economical La Poste service has an upper limit of 2kg. It may actually be cheaper to send 2 or more separate parcels if the items are very heavy.
Yes! I am happy to reserve items for up to a maximum of 1 month. If you would like to reserve an item I will ask you to pay 10% deposit.
