Are you missing the sea? Longing for an underwater experience? These three crustaceans for your wall will satisfy those under-sea tide pool cravings!

Barnacles are very interesting creatures. My first up-close experience with barnacles was on a pier in Seattle at low tide. I saw this mooring post, completely covered with beautiful barnacles so I bent look closer. As my shadow covered the post, I could hear hundreds of tiny barnacles clicking, closing up for safety, or maybe they were opening up, to see if I was food! Fascinating! I came back later, but the pole was covered with the incoming tide and my beautiful barnacles were underwater, safe from my prying eyes.

This is a set of five barnacles, because barnacles usually have close friends around them. They were each handbuilt from a round pod form, and then paddled into a barnacly shape. They're made from low-fire white clay, then glazed with a black glaze which was wiped off to reveal the texture., They were then glazed with a transparent glaze and fired to 1840 degrees.

The largest barnacle measure 1.5 inches (4 cm) tall and 2.75 inches (7 cm) wide. The smallest one is 1.25 inches (3 cm) tall and 2 inches (5 cm) wide. They will protrude from your wall 1.5 inches (4 cm) to 1.25 (3 cm). Each one has a 3/8 inch hole for easy wall hanging on a nail.

Note: if you are placing these pods in the garden, bring them inside if temperatures go below freezing, as cracking of the glaze may occur when the clay becomes wet, then freezes and thaws. I have only ever had one crack in 8 years (that's right, I leave mine out. I'm a risk-taker!), but it could happen!
