Apatite originates from the Greek word for "cheat". That unfair title was allegedly earned from apatite's possible confusion with amblygonite, andalusite, brazilianite, precious beryl, sphene, topaz or tourmaline. Apatite, a stone seldom found in jewelry stores and virtually unknown to the general public, is beloved by collectors for its many different colors and forms. http://www.gemselect.com/gem-info/apatite/apatite-info.php

Why are Green Amethysts Green?. Green amethyst is produced when heat is applied to a certain type of amethyst. Most amethyst turns yellow, orange or brown when heated, but amethyst containing iron compounds with specific properties (Fe2+ iron compounds) will turn green instead.
Some natural sources green quartz has been found, however the green amethyst sold as gemstones is heat-treated. The two are the same - it is speculated that heat produced naturally by geological events during formation of the mineral caused the production of the naturally green deposits. http://www.greenamethysts.com/green-amethyst-faq.htm

Another pair of classic and elegant chandelier earrings!. This time I used apatite and green amethyst (prasiolite) in different shades and shapes with the central dangles being eye catching step cut green amthyst briolettes. Fine chain in different lengths was used to add movement and interest to these long chandelier earrings. At the top, a medallion is formed by a double border of handmade tiny apatite round beads with a faceted oval green amethyst in the center.

Size of the step cut green amethyst briolettes: 13x8mmmm.

The silver has been oxidised and hand polished to make the stones come alive and to evoke an antique feeling.

Length incl. secure leverback sterling silver ear wires: 9,5cm – 3 ¾”
