In this kit to make a Icelandic traditional "Hyrna" there is 5,2oz (150g) of yarn . The yarn is hand dyed with natural colors from lichens from the Icelandic nature. The lichen is heated with the yarn so it gets a "striped" apperance. This is what the vikings used to color their garments.

The Hyrna is very simple to make and might be good for beginners. The needles (not included) are no 3,5 but the Icelandic yarn einband can handle smaller or larger needles. The skeins are the same color. You start knitting the Hyrna at the neck.

My name is Gudrun Bjarnadottir and I teach botany at the Agricultural university of Iceland. I am interrested in etnobotany and in my free time I collect plants and use them to color the Icelandic einband from Icelandic sheep wool. The yarn is called Hespa wich is the name for skein in Icelandic.
Shipping 2-3 weeks. Included: 3 skeins of yarn and directions for making a "Hyrna" as seen in the picture (not same colors). Needles not included.
Ships all over the world.
