Whether you wear it to a ball or to your wedding - this sleek, elegant dress will make sure you look your best! It is also very Mad Men style...
I found this dress (or it found me) in Vienna. Just imagine... maybe it was made for a debutante dancing at one of the many balls that happen in this city every year - maybe even the famous Opera Ball?

This slender column of a dress has a high empire-style waist, below which the skirt falls with four pleats at the front and two at the back, to give enough room to move, but still keeping the slim line. The entire dress is made of the same heavy, beautiful eggshell white fabric in a type of jaquard weave. The fabric has a little bit of shimmer to it, which only adds to the magic of this dress. The neck and the waist are are decorated with a band of sequins and seed pearls all around, the front of the bodice is further decorated with sequins. A center back zip with a hook & eye at the top closes it all up. The dress is fully lined and also has lingerie gards placed at the shoulders inside the dress, to keep your bra straps in place.

There are no labels in this dress and there is quite a bit of hand finishing - I guess it was made by a seamstress. It is in any case very well made.

Dating: early to mid 1960s
(while this is no exact science, but this is what I suppose upon checking style, material, fit etc.)

Material: synthetic, must be dry-cleaned

Size: fits like an XS
Measurements, taken from garment lying flat:
Bust: 30 1/2 inches / 77 cm
High waist: 28 3/4 inches / 73 cm
Natural waist: free
Hips: free / max. 43 inches / 109 cm
Full length: 48 1/2 inches / 123 cm
Length of bodice - shoulder to high waist: 10 /12 inches / 27 cm

Condition: good. The dress is whole and undamaged. It has also been dry-cleaned by a specialist dry-cleaner. However, there is one issue that that dry-cleaner couldn't resolve either: there is yellowing around the bottom and some darker stains on the skirt, and also at the back and the sides of the bodice (I can imagine though, worn at an evening function where probably the light wouldn't be so bright, this would not show so much). Furthermore, there is also some yellowing on the lining of the bodice, especially on the shoulders and a little under the arms, as well as the bottom of the skirt lining. This might be from age, storage, whatever. Also, the seam of the dress has been taken up about one inch at a time. It's clearly visible on the photo. Due to the new seam, the seam can't be taken down anymore, or it would show. The sequins on the bodice front are a ready-made band of sequins that was stitched on by hand. That hand stitching has come a little loose in one place, however that is an easy thing to fix. Otherwise, the sequins are all there, none missing or damaged, and well sewn on to the band. One of the lingerie guards has lost one side of the little snap, but that could be easily replaced by new guard, sewn in with a few stitches. The zip works just fine.
