Adriana is a beautiful sweetly sad art doll that I made to share her amazing story with you.

She lived a life of sad torment, spending the best years of her life locked away in an Insane Asylum. But in the end her life became one full of meaning that showed she had a great heart and great devotion to what she believed in. Adriana was 60 years old when she was finally released, and she devoted many hours trying to improve conditions for those less fortunate than herself that she had left behind.

Adriana always fought for what she knew was the truth, and for justice for her fellow inmates. If you’d like more detail I’ve written up her story on my blog -

Adriana wears traditional split crotch drawers, chemise / shift, corset, corset cover and moon shaped bum pad under one simple, one part ruffled and one fancy petticoat made of the last large piece of my favorite stripped cotton lawn. Her sky blue patterned simple day dress has a high lace collar and deep cuffs, with a gathered apron front and crossed front, shaped through the layers to give her a simpler bustle shape without the bulky cage bustle, which would have been impractical for where she spent her days: the kind of dress that would have been worn for comfortable days at home. She wears a navy velvet sash finished in a large bow in the small of her back and left trailing down her skirt, which has a slight train to give it a soft finish. And I added a soft paisley shawl to keep her warm.

She weighs approx. 250g, and is 54cm tall.
She will be delivered to you securely wrapped and presented in a hand decorated gift box/bag with matching tag and contact details; ready to give as a gift, or just because it’s always nice to receive nice parcels.

I hand make my dolls to be reminiscent of the stunning old and ancient dolls you find inside glass cases at museums, Using a strong wooden core and sculpted paperclay to give them a time worn feel in a new doll, taking care to ensure they will last for generations to come if cared for properly. I hand sew each layer of clothing just as these women would have worn during their lives, whether that life is that of a true woman or one of the many from my imagination. And they have vintage thread joints, making it possible to pose them in any way you would like.

I love to learn about the hidden women from our past that we rarely hear about, the ones that give us a true picture of how people were treated. I’m always inspired by the lives they led and what they achieved, every one of them finding beauty in the darker aspects of the past that have led to our modern understanding of the world: A true glimpse of history. To try and make sense of the hectic busy lives we lead we all need a little beauty to come home to. And the histories of women that we don’t tend to hear about, out of the mainstream, can really tell us a lot about ourselves in an amazingly positive way.

All my work is unique and authentic, and is always supplied with signed and dated documents. I keep full records of each doll I produce, what inspired me, and when and how they were created. Every doll is individually handmade, and will not be re-created. So every doll has their own, unique, one-of-a-kind personality.
