Broadway Stage & Silent Movie Star Viola Allen in Antique Frame Gold & Dark Pink

Viola Allen, born in Huntsville, Alabama, was a stage actress who starred in dozens of Broadway productions from 1885 to 1916. She also appeared in three silent films. She died in 1948 and was buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

She's looking very sad in this photo and appears to be holding a letter -- perhaps not the words she was hoping to read. Her costume has leg-o-mutton sleeves, elaborate embroidery, and what appears to be tufting (might be beading). She's wearing roses in her hair. Photo (not old) has a pinkish-sepia tone. Vintage frame is very nice, with wavy glass and a brass hanging ring.
