Yeah! This listing made it to the front page on Etsy!!

I was inspired by The Great Wave off Kanagawa, a woodblock print by Japanese artist Hokusai, when designing this embroidery hoop art. A modern, slightly minimalistic take on the famous print, I focused on the lines and colors of the wave.

I embroidered this piece free hand (no patterns here!) on upcycled linen beige fabric, doubled to create a more sturdy and opaque surface. I love how the raw weave provides more texture and interest. I used 5 different colors of embroidery floss, and three stitches, including french knots in the base of the wave to add more dimension (see the third picture).

The hoop measures 10 inches. You can hang the hoop on a wall or place it on a shelf or bookcase. Easy Peasy. This hoop is one of a kind!

The back of the hoop is covered with the same fabric (see last picture).

Have another idea for a hoop? You can see my other hoops here, along with a custom hoop set! http://www.etsy.com/shop/KingSoleil?section_id=10553758
