I made this raku vase on my pottery wheel. I used a copper blue flash glaze. The wonderful colors are created by the smoke. This raku vase has fractures run in through it. It was heated so quickly the quartz expanded to fast, this caused thermal shock, which fractured the vase.

• 5 ½ ” tall
• 5 ¼ ” wide
• 4 ½ ” opening
• 3 3/8 ” base
• Weight 2 pounds

This would make a nice home decor gift. I used a white high stoneware clay body, and bisque fired it in oxidation to cone 04, then I fired in my raku kiln (30 minutes) until the glaze did not that wet shine look. Then I grab the vase pair large tongs, while it was glowing red hot, and placed the vase in a garbage can , with newspapers (combustibles), which burst in to flames, then I grabbed the lid, and sealed the garbage can, smoke and flames.
It is signed on the bottom.

(not foodsafe, because of the cracks where bacteria can grow)

(When handling a raku ceramic piece, pick it by the base. If you grab the neck it might break out off in your hand!)
