Vintage French Pure Linen Dowry Sheet, Superb, Unused, Circa 1910ish.

First I must mention that although this sheet has never been used it has a minute hole, or more likely, a fabric flaw on it. This is shown in a picture. This hole/flaw is located at the bottom of the sheet 13 inches in from one edge and 24 inches from the bottom hem. I would imagine that if one shortened the sheet as most people do as French vintage sheets are so long, one would cut this small hole out.

A absolutely stunning, completely hand made, French vintage 100% pure linen sheet which is monogrammed in the center of the return with the initials M.S. It is a very beautiful sheet.

The quality of the pure linen used to make this beautiful sheet is exactly how pure linen should be, smooth slinky and rustley, just perfect and you would be hard placed to find better.

An incredible amount of hand worked detail has gone into the making of this sheet, the two rows of drawn ladder work is entirely hand worked, as are the embroidered spots between the two rows. The embroidered detail is continued part way down each side of the sheet.

The monogramme, initials M.S is worked in the traditional French way, in the raised embroidery the French call rembourre, this is worked over piping to give the raised effect.

This sheet measures approx 88 inches wide by 109 inches long.

It is a substantial sheet weighing approx 1.8Kg. It will most likely last any buyer a lifetime.

As is traditional with French vintage linen, the sheet was produced using unbleached flax, therefore it is ecru in colour, it will go white with repeat washes. Please note, it will never go pure brilliant white like modern linens but a creamy white of linens past. The close up pictures done on macro are a good indication of its colour.

These beautiful sheets command very high prices at specialist shops more often double this price. Please check it out to confirm that this statement is true.

Not being a person for flowery words, I will now let the pictures speak for themselves.
