This bear made it to the front page of Etsy as a part of this treasury:

This teddy bear is ready to ship. Please note that the listing is for one bear - the white one. The picture with the brown teddy (also available in my shop) is shown as a "you might also like" suggestion.

It is handmade by me, knitted in organic Angel Touch alpaca yarn in its natural cream color and stuffed with organic wool. The bear is very soft to the touch, its limbs are mobile and it can sit on its own. The scarf is knitted in the same yarn in natural grey and is fastened to the bear's body, therefore safe for small babies.

It is based on a teddy bear design from the wonderful book Knitted Animals by Anne-Dorthe Grigaff. It is related to the practice of Waldorf toy design in being simple and made of natural materials.

Both the yarn and the stuffing are certified organic sourced as follows:

alpaca yarn: www.perunaturtex.com
wool fill: www.greenfibres.co.uk

Size: 26cm / 10.2 inch

Here are some facts I learned about this alpaca yarn, called Angel Touch, from the distributor: http://www.perunaturtex.com/organic1.htm

The Alpaca animals (graceful creatures, looking a bit like lamas) have lived in the Andes for 8,000 years, grazing on wild pastures 4,000 meters above sea level.

Fiber sorting employs dozens of women highly skilled in quality control and tactile recognition of fiber fineness. The fiber is spun in a Skal inspected mill under direct supervision for organic standards. The yarn is certified by FLO-CERT for Fair-trade standards.

* Alpaca is almost indestructible - fine woven alpaca in good condition have recently been discovered in Peruvian ruins dating back 2500 years.
* Healthy and comfortable to wear - no lanolin or other oils in the fleece
* Hypoallergenic
* Alpaca fiber has a hollow fiber core - creating superior warmth with little weight.

Alpaca is lighter, 20% warmer, silkier and has no pilling compared to wool or cashmere. The finest of all Alpaca grades is Organic Baby Alpaca, used to knit this teddy bear.
