Imagine your morning ritual of that first cup of coffee with this comfortable to hold, balanced mug that is fun to look at as well as feel in your hand. I was inspired by all the deer we have around here. It is made out of stoneware clay that has been fired to cone 11 in my manabigama wood kiln. It was first bisque fired to cone 06, then glazed with a shino glaze on the outside and inside. The flame caresses each piece as it slips by, depositing flame marking (hi-iro) and ash glaze(shizenyu) on each piece. Careful consideration is given as to it's placement in the kiln. This mug has my potters mark, a "WP" and a split fire on the bottom of the handle. I built my kiln with a twin stack at the top of the chimney that throws a distinctive split flame during the wood firing process.

I threw and altered this mug on the wheel. This piece is approximately 4" high by 5" wide and holds 14 oz.

This wood-fired mug would be a pleasure to use and enjoy for years to come and is food safe, dishwasher proof and microwavable.
