This is a blue star service banner quilt. It measures
15 1/2 in wide by 29 in long and is meant to be displayed in your front window if you
have a relative in service to their country. (An organization
may fly the flag if they have a member in service.) Each blue
star represents a service member, so if you have two or more
family members in service, you can add their star too.
The blue star service banner as designed in 1917 by United
States Army Captain Robert L. Queisser, in honor of his two
sons who were serving in the war. There is no legal
specification of the banner's size, but according to the
Department of Defense, the flag size ratio must be 1:1.9.
I have added my twist to it by putting two bald headed eagle panels on the
back so that you can see them from the inside when you put your
quilt in the window. There is velcro on the tabs at the top so you can
hang this from any existing rod. everything is quilted with matching thread so
it washed easily. I will enclose a print out explaining the blue star service banner
and it's history.
This would make a great gift for a mom that has a son or daughter in the service.
