Rue: Ruta graveolens - perennial herb - hardy in zones 4-9 - height 24"-36" - full sun/part shade

Host plant for Black, Anise and Giant Swallowtail butterfly larvae.

Rue has been grown in gardens since ancient times. The hardy evergreen shrub was first mentioned by Turner in 1592 in his "herbal" and was also mentioned by writers from Pliny to Shakespeare and beyond as a herb of remembrance and healing.

Rue may be planted indoors or outdoors in ordinary potting soil. It makes an attractive potted plant and will thrive in a sunny windowsill. The plant is beautiful with silvery, spoon shaped leaves and yellow clusters of flowers.

Rue is an excellent insect repellent, both in the garden and in the home. It has historically been used to control fleas, hence its association as an anti-plague herb.

Caution: Wear gloves when handling rue as some people get a photosensitivity reaction handling the fresh leaves.

Listing is for approximately 35-40 seeds with planting instructions.

All my plants are grown naturally, using organic methods, without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or harmful chemicals. I subscribe to sustainable, eco friendly gardening practices and the Safe Seed Pledge.

Additional seed orders ship free; also ships free with purchase of another (non seed) product from my shop. .
