An eclectic mix of glass in rich hues of green and yellow dangle from a sturdy copper chain. In the center a single old coin from the Kuchi tribe of the Middle East. The Kuchi tribe regularly use coins in their jewelry and stitched onto their clothes. This particular coin is from Afghanistan and features 3 sprigs of wheat. . The pendant hangs from a hammered copper loop which has a slight dimpled look to add to the rustic, tribal look. The beads sound so nice clinking together... great for belly dancing.

This necklace is a little bit longer than my other glass Kuchi style necklaces, it measures 19 1/2" but because of the size of the individual chain links are so large one can hook the clasp in the back so the necklace is tighter. This is shown in the pictures above, the necklace is worn adjusted to 16". The pendant hangs 1 1/4"

Just a note on copper jewelry:

Over time copper will tarnish creating a patina or darkening of the copper, this is a natural process and many people enjoy this look. Copper has also been known to discolour the skin of some wearers. Some people are more prone to this than others and some never seem to be affected. The discoloration is completely harmless and can be minimized by cleaning the copper regularly.

If you would like to keep your copper pieces looking bright and new there are few steps you can follow. Firstly keep your copper pieces in a zip lock bag. Exposure to oxygen will speed up the tarnishing process, (this is also true for sterling silver) keeping it in a zip lock bag will help slow the process down. You can gently buff the copper every once in a while with a jewelry polishing cloth. If your jewelry gets too dull and the polishing cloth is not enough, the copper piece can be gently washed with some lemon juice diluted in water. For pieces that are completely copper you can submerse into the lemon and water mixture and gently scrub with a soft bristle tooth brush. When washing copper jewelry with semiprecious stones take more care in using lemon juice as some stones are more sensitive to the acidic nature of the lemon juice. Instead of soaking, dip the tooth brush and gently scrub just the copper bits. In both washing methods, be sure to thoroughly rinse the pieces under running water. Place on a paper towel and gently pat with another paper towel. Let fully air dry before returning to its zip lock bag.
