This is a rare 1950s MB Markay cut velvet "pop art" handbag. Not much information is available about the company, but they bankrupted in 1959, leaving little for us bagophiles to find out for you. Most of their bags were utilitarian styles of lesser quality, but they put out one season of fantastic little cut velvet bags in bright colors. Genius!

This cute little thing measures about 9" x 7", with an adjustable chain handle up to a 12" drop that can be carried as either a handbag or shoulder bag. The colors are fantastic - bright red, true olive green and deep black. Although the label is absent, I have found other MB Markay bags online in this exact fabric and style for over $200. It's in very good condition, without too much wear. The chain handle is still bright and shiny, the velvet has very little pillage, but the brass feet on the bottom are only slightly discolored. There is almost no wear on any of the corners. The interior is a heavy moire silk with one zipper pocket. A fun and frivolous bag for fall!

NOTE: If you'd like to see more photographs, please convo me and give me at least a day to respond. I'm very happy to hear from you, but I work crazy hours in a 24/7 facility without any access to the internet or my phone. I want all of my clients to be thrilled with their purchase, so please review the photos carefully and let me know if you have quesitons.
