Welcome to Historic Needlecrafts- Patterns from the past brought back to life for modern knitters and crocheters.

Don't you love those red lips!

Photos 1 and 5 are from a customer who did a great job creating this vintage garment!

This pattern is a reproduction of a vintage knitting pattern from 1953. It is for a very fashionable bolero, shrug or "hug me tight". The knitting pattern is for sizes S (33-34) and L (35-36) bust. Women were smaller in the 50's! It calls for fingering weight yarn. The pink garment is knit in angora yarn and the black and white image is the same garment in a regular yarn.

You can make this garment in a bigger size by experimenting with larger needles and heavier weight yarn.

Please note that this is a British pattern. You will need to convert from UK to US needle sizes if you are a US knitter. Conversion of needles is below and included with the pattern:

Knitting needles
Small- 3 and 2 US or 11 and 12 UK or 3 and 2.75 mm metric
Large- approx 3 and 4 US or 10 and 11 UK or 3.25 and 3 mm metric

Steel crochet hook approx. C or D US or 11 UK

Pattern contains 5 pages.

Some knowledge of vintage knitting patterns will be helpful.

This item is for the knitting pattern and not the finished product.

What is PDF format? It is the format used by Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you don't have the correct software, you can get it from www.adobe.com. The beautiful thing about PDF files is that they are formatted and paginated which means that they are very easy to read (when compared with plain text files) and they are ready to print!
