Holly and Berries!

The little sprigs of holly and berries in this penny rug table runner make it a great seasonal feature on an end table, or back of a toilet paired with a cedar sprig or scented candle.

The design is created in the traditional penny rug style of appliqued wool hand sewn using the primitive and the buttonhole stitch. Coins were traced for the designs, thus the name "penny" rug. Notice the "pennies" at each end! This folk art dates back to the 1800s when the civil war uniforms were being re used as household implements. It is lined with another piece of wool, making it a nice sturdy thickness.

This penny rug measures 20" x 5" (51cm. x 13cm.).

Old coats sometimes hold treasures in their pockets-one of the tongues holds the lucky penny.
