About Elaine Lustig:
Elaine Lustig (b.1927) was educated at Newcomb College at Tulane University and University of Southern California, where she graduated with her BFA. Elaine married her hsband, seminal Modernist graphic designer alvin Lustig, in 1948 and went on to a long career as an important designer herself. Towards the end of her husband's career he was afflicted with blindness, but maintained meticulous control over his work by Elaine's direct supervision, whom executed his designs up until his death in 1955. Elaine's solo work tends to use the vibrant color palette and rigid typography indicative of early sixties design, in conjunction with more playful forms which were prominent in her and Alvin's work earlier in their careers. After Alvin's passing, Elaine married Meridian Books publisher Arthur Cohen, and together they opened Ex Libris gallery and sold avant-garde books, posters, collages, paintings and decorative arts.
