Dick said, "See Spot. Oh, see Spot jump." In this illustration, Spot is a dog. In the early Dick and Jane stories, Spot was a cat! Now the cat is Puff. Dick and Jane readers were used from the 1930's through to the 1970's. They fell out of use when studies supported a phonics reading method as a better way to gain literacy. I believe there are some brilliant people out there who grew up on Dick and Jane who would dispute those studies!

This medium sized book has an original page from a Dick and Jane Calendar. The 1/4" thick wood covers measure 9" tall and 6 1/4" wide. It is well filled with 200-230 cream colored pages. This book offers a nostalgic place to journal in or to write your own children stories. It could be used as a sketch book or scrap book, an address book or recipe book. The blank pages make any possibily a reality! I have carefully preserved this art under layer upon layer of varnish, with sanding between every coat, inside and out. This makes for a strong and sturdy, useable and durable book. Please enjoy.

The "spots" you see in the photo of the inside covers is one of the "warts" I talk about in my profile page. It is a chemical reaction between the oils in the wood, the adhesive I use and the varnish process. It does not alter the useability of this book at all. They are just "warts", a visual defect.
