Always popular and made by virtually every designer, butterfly brooches come in all colors, styles and sizes. This vintage one is large and in charge, such as would have been worn primarily in the 1980s. The stones are all glued on, some rhinestones, some cabachon shaped, and all are very colorful shades of pink and purple.

I have mounted the brooch on a bright pink wood teardrop shaped back, to add depth and interest. In place of the original pin back, I have added a new magnetic-back clasp.

The overall size is a very dramatic (as if the color was not eye-catching enough!) 2 and 1/2 inches by 2 and 1/4 inches. Of course, this brooch, with its versatile magnetic back that will keep the brooch secure in whatever direction you put it, can be worn in any direction and on virtually any garment.

Firmly attached to the back is a very strong magnet that will hold this brooch to your garment, handbag, scarf, or virtually where ever you want it to be, that is, until you choose to remove it. Because of the options offered by the magnet vs. the traditional pin holder normally used on brooches, this brooch can be worn in any direction.

This size is just right to wear on a heavier tee shirt, blouse, jacket lapel or even a wide hat band.

If this is your first foray into magnets, welcome to the exquisite world of Magnetic back brooches. These are an innovative, stylish and secure way to keep your brooch where ever you want it to be! No more pins to fumble with or pinholes to ruin your clothes or scarves. Magnetic brooches can be used as accents on clothing, scarves, hats and handbags. Let your imagination be your guide.

Even better, you will notice that many of the brooches are actually vintage pieces recycled for the modern era, so you can feel "green" and gloriously beautiful at the same time.

Quality neodymium rare earth Magnetic Fasteners are used on the back of each brooch as opposed to the traditional pin clasp. Magnetic fasteners will not damage or put holes in your clothing. A super–strong magnet will keep your brooch attached to virtually any type of clothing, from denim to suede, wool, leather, and silk. These brooches will not come off until you remove them.

Each magnetic fastener is selected based on the design and size of the brooch. Consequently various sizes, strengths or shapes may be used. The magnetic fasteners hold equally well on light thin fabrics, medium fabrics such as a wool jacket and heavy fabrics such as a leather coat. An exception to this are the very small round magnets used on the smallest brooches. These generally will hold well on all fabrics except very thick materials such as a leather coat or a sweater.
The magnetic backs are easy to use:
• With your thumb, PUSH and SLIDE the top magnet off the bottom magnet. (DO NOT try to pull them apart because they are too strong.) Remember to always SLIDE.
• Position your brooch anywhere convenient on top of your clothing and place the removed magnet beneath your garment and in back of the top magnet. Make sure you have the color-coded portion of the back magnet on the outside of the back. The 2 portions of the magnets will immediately bond together to create a secure attachment.
• When you are ready to remove the brooch, remember to use the same technique you used to put it on. Always SLIDE the bottom magnet off.

CAUTION: If you are pregnant or wear a pacemaker, please consult your physician before wearing any jewelry containing magnetic parts. Keep magnets away from children and items that can be affected by magnets such as credit cards, computers and pacemakers.
