I've had a fascination with fractals for nearly twenty years, but this is the first time I've been able to bring them into anything related with wood. Brought to fruition through the power of computer controlled machinery and many hours interpreting a fractal design (lambdafn) as a chip carving.

The piece is 23-3/4" long by 11-3/4" wide, carved into an oval slant cut slab of walnut. It's hard to find a slab this size without significant cracking and that is so symmetrical. There's one relatively minor crack at the bottom that has been filled with a mix of epoxy and sawdust, and one very tiny crack at the top.

It has a recessed hanger on the back to hang securely from a screw. It is heavy so that screw should either be in a stud or a good drywall anchor. It presents best when lit from the side with a raking light, the fourth picture gives you an idea how it looks under flat lighting.
