A happy accident resulted in 'Galactic Portal' - or perhaps its maker intended to plant the sealing iron right smack in the middle of the side of this unique hand blown collectible. The result is so auspicious the name 'portal' kept coming - so why not use the imagination and go 'galactic'? You'll have fun using this unique happening and symbolism to arrive at your own meaningful name. The 'Portal' is beautiful as can be seen and measures about 1-1/2" diameter right on the face of this marvelous antique piece.

The body of the float measures 3-3/8" diameter or 10-3/8" in circumference. Galactic Portal offers a few additional 'gifts'. The beautiful thick, high quality glass exhibits rich luster. Its glowing sheen is rippled with beautiful swirling that, unfortunately, got neglected in the photos. Turn the float around, forget about the amazing 'portal' and angle the float into the light and the glass turns into an immense rippled 'sea' of swirling! The float shows a lovely 'crown halo' on top (technically the bottom, where the glass blowing began, yet the 'top' as the float would normally sit once it finds its center of gravity).

This unique float also contains at least three 'imbedded objects', tiny pieces of sand blown right into the glass. Sometimes pieces of wire, chunks of wood, fabric, seaweed, pieces of rock or oven ash and brick are found. I always view 'imbedded objects' - which many collectors covet - as a chance to make wishes!

I mentioned additional 'gifts'. Here's another delightful anomaly: There are two clear 'dimples' - as obvious indentations opposite the portal. I'd hazard a guess the float was about to experience a real accident and its maker or a helper managed to catch the float while the glass was still somewhat hot, preventing it from falling to its demise? But where was the mold bowl? And why did the seal iron end up in the middle of the float? The many mysteries, the stories....the legends.....Japanese villages.....the fishers......their families, the ancient sea arts.... now only the ocean knows!

The seal 'button' is beautiful. View it in photo #3. It is wonderfully rounded and perfectly placed. Showing careful craftsmanship, it is of good thickness and even throughout. The surround edges are rounded off, perfectly smooth. Another gift - there are no chips, no nicks nor any grazing to the edges. Please notice how the floats naturally sits in photo #4. You'll see the little reflection of the seal button and its 'eye' on the wooden deck. This reflection shows in very low light, overcast typical Pacific NW weather. This is what the seal 'button' will do for you! Place the float near bright light and it will cast a brightly glowing, teal blue reflection for you.

Galactic Portal will not easily be found again. I've none other in my collection, nor have I seen anything quite like it, though I have one in the shop with a 'new-moon' or partial such marking on the body of the float. Galactic Portal truly 'takes the cake' as they say - so enjoy!
