This is the eighth book in the "Baseball Joe" series, the first major series devoted to a central character who was a baseball player. As well, it was the first series which treated major league players not as lower class citizens but as true heroes. The emergence of Babe Ruth (thinly disguised in the book as Kid Roth) transforms Baseball Joe as a weak hitting pitching star into a star slugger.

Title page reads:

Baseball Joe - Home Run King - or - The Greatest Pitcher and Batter on Record - Illustrated - Published by Cupples & Leon, New York, c. 1922. There is no publishing date to be found, but there is a personal inscription dated 1932 on the inside front endpaper.

There is a full page black and white illustration as a frontispiece.

This 244 page, 7 and half by 5 inch hardcover is in fairly good condition. The pages are clear. There is a small tear in the bottom margin edge of page 2. There are some personal stamps on the inside front and back endpapers. The binding is solid; the inside front cover hinge is weak. The grey cloth cover has some wear along the edges. A neat vintage baseball sports story. A hard to find copy.
