115 Crinoid Fossil Stem Pieces in this excellent collection of crinoid stem segments in various sizes & colors.

Sizes range from 3/16" - 2" high ; approximately 1/4" - 3/4" in diameter.

You will receive exactly these crinoid fossils featured.
They are stashed in a re-purposed jar - with a map decoupaged to the lid.

The jar is approximately 4.5" high and 2.25" wide.

These crinoid stem segments were collected in South Central Kentucky and are believed to be from the Mid to Late Paleozoic Period: 542 - 251 million years ago.

Known as "Sea Lillies" or "Feather Stars" - They are among the most primitive and ancient of ocean invertebrate.

The fossils were commonly used in the Bronze Age as beads. In Germany, these were known as Bonifacius Pfennige or "St. Boniface's Pennies" and were used as "Fairy Money" - believed to entice fairies to an area and bring prosperity. In the North of England, they have been known since the 17th Century as "St. Cuthbert's Beads". In New England and other US locations, they are commonly called "Indian Money": perhaps because they look vaguely like the wampum beads made by various Indian tribes.

Archeologists excavating at the Grand Canyon discovered crinoids strung by the Ancestral Puebloan Native Americans that lived there about 1000 years ago.

Use these crinoids as collector's specimens, in charms, jewelry, in art projects, terrarium decor or decoration for aquariums. This item would make a great gift for a geology fan or nature loving loved one.
