This is "Sugarplum", a delightful fairy coat made for the blossoming young ballerina. It is serged and stitched entirely of upcycled sweaters in shades from pink to burgundy with touches of cream. The front right skirt is adorned with a ballerina applique that is partially knitted in, and is three dimensional with a tutu of white tulle, and ballet slippers with tiny satin ribbons. The front is fastened with small hidden buttons but have tiny pink satin rosebuds over them.
The bodice sweater is of wool in an Icelandic pattern of cream, shades of pink, mauve and burgundy. The colors of the skirt panels and matching bell sleeves pick up the colors in the main sweater. The long matching pixie hood falls to below the waist and ends in a cute point. A patchwork pocket on the left front skirt will hide secret treasures.
Pictures do not really do this adorable carousel coat justice, but it is a wonderful confection of sugarplum and candy cane colors. This would be an ideal gift for a young girl or teen who longs for a Katwise-inspired elf-style coat, but cannot find one in a small size. My beautiful model Ally is 12, and this fits her snug and falls to a bit below the knee.
All sweaters have been washed and dried for maximum shrinkage, but please use care when laundering this. I recommend hand wash or delicate machine wash and dry flat or delicate cycle in dryer to avoid further shrinkage.
