A beautiful vintage hair pin in silver tone metalwork, wonderfully embellished with glass stones. These hairpins are worn by Indonesian brides, as part of the elaborate traditional costume, worn during the wedding ceremony.

The pin is made out of pierced and embossed silver tone metal. The domed head of the hair pin is cut into filigree and scrolled foliage motifs. These are studded with a crown-like arrangement of small and beautifully coloured glass stones arranged to suggest a central flower motif. The other coloured stones are dotted at salient points. The colour of the glass is beautiful - cerulean blue, cobalt blue, blood-orange and amber.

The hair pin has two twisted prongs that secure it into the hair when it is gathered up. It would have been worn in hair a chignon or the bun part of a chignon, either at the back or the side of the head. I like how this pin stays firmly in position in hair gathered up at the back or on top of the head; the prongs are twisted and strong to help them stay in place. The pin is also of a good length, making it suitable for medium-long hair.

This hair pin is rare in that is has no missing stones and is in excellent vintage condition. Clean, secure and strong. Fully wearable.

4.5 inches/11.5 long x 1.8 inches/4.5 cm wide.

A wonderful bohemian, unique and exotic hairpin. It also looks attractive displayed on a dressing table, or as part of a collection of vintage hair pins and combs.
