The "Wanahca" dream catcher is named after the Lakota word for "flower," referencing both the unique colored flowers of the doily and the legend that tells of how dream catchers first came into being – when a trikster and searcher of wisdom called Iktomi comes to a Lakota spiritual leader in the form of a spider. This is when Iktomi speaks with the elder about the cycles of life, and the good and bad forces inherent in that cycle, all the while spinning a web on the Lakota man's decorated hoop of willow branches. When he had finished, he gave the elder back his hoop, telling him to use the web to help his people make use of their good ideas, dreams and visions, while allowing the negative to be filtered by the web, caught in its weaving. This is a real quick version of that story, but it is nonetheless where the legend and the power of the dream catcher originates from :)

I made this dream catcher from an unusual vintage crocheted lace doily of blue and pink flowers, stretched over a macrame hoop which I have covered with 75% recycled cotton yarn. I have adorned it with leather feathers which I have hand-cut from white scrap leather, badger hackle feathers (so named because their coloring resembles the markings down the badgers back), and a lovely, unique tumbled pink stone which I believe to be a type of agate. Fringe is tied into a loop at the top for easy hanging. Design and craftsmanship by Sunday French Toast :)

This would make a wonderful special gift for a loved one or even for yourself :) It will come carefully and attractively packaged so that all of its beads and feathers make it to you in excellent condition :)

Holiday gift wrap is available for all items, and I can even send your purchase straight to that special somebody that you are buying for to ease your hectic holiday schedule! Just convo me before purchasing! :)

Dimensions: Dream catcher measures approximately 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter, with fringe and long pheasant tail feathers extending about 8 inches (20 cm) below the hoop.
