Story of this drawing:
We live in the east bay of San Francisco, so we can easily see the bay view and the city across the bay. But there are a lot of big trees in our neighbor, and one of our neighbor's big trees blocks the bay and city view. One day my husband was standing in front of the window and saying: " If our neighbor cuts down that tree, then we'll have a great view..." I couldn't believe what I was hearing! How is it possible that a view of a whole bunch of buildings is better than a view of trees?! So I drew our little house surrounded by a lot of big trees to remind him of how beautiful our neighborhood is and how lucky we are.
I screen printed my drawing with white ink and sewed the little house with three different fabrics: I sewed the roof with striped print fabric, the wall with newspaper print canvas and the door with black velvet. After so much work, I also sewed 2 curved white lines from the chimney! I'd say this appliqué is a lot of cuter than our real house, but that's the charm of the drawing, isn't it?
