This rustic pewter half pint beer mug hails from the 19th century; it was made by famous Victorian pewter craftsman James Yates (whose name is stamped near the cup rim). Likely made in the mid-1800s, this charming metal stein is stamped with many interesting marks, including a "VR 561" with a crown. "VR" stands for Queen Victoria ("Victoria Regina"), and indicates that the mug was made during her reign. This mark was used from 1837 to 1901. See my detail photos for a better look at all the whimsical little stamps that adorn this piece.

The tankard is decorated with simple raised bands ("molded girdles") that run around the cup; the handle has what is called an 'Attention Terminal' (I think this refers to the flat/angular shape at the top).

This sturdy mug is a true antique; I love its perfectly imperfect, handmade look and its patina of history. It would be a unique gift, and a great addition to your bar decor or to any room in your house! Please see below for detailed information on measurements, condition and shipping.

This cute little half-pint mug measures approximately 3 & 3/8 inches tall, 3 inches across the base, and 2.5 inches across the top. It is about 4 1/8 wide including the width of the handle. It weighs 240 grams.

Very good antique condition. As you can see from my photos, the mug has an old and weathered appearance, but this is part of its charm (it's over a century old!). The mug is not perfectly cylindrical; you can see from the top that the shape is a little irregular.
