This is a truly RARE find, dated 1888 "Crazy Quilt"! It has all of the things that one looks for in an Antique "Civil War" Quilt. The colors and textures are a beautiful record of an Era that has Gone with the Wind.. As your eyes scan the surface, the artistry of the piece becomes apparent immediately. A delicate sense of balance and color makes the eyes dance from one place to another. And it evokes a time long past .Embellished with embroidery, applique, beading, crewelwork and some of the most amazingly lady like stitches I have ever seen on any quilt! You know the kind you see in sewing books and never quite getting around to trying yourself. The quilt measures 67 " Square, that is just over 5Feet and is in very good condition, with out any obvious repairs. It has an original backing. Not only does it have Artistic Merit and Style, but the Condition is also in its favor. Now to what I feel is the most important of all, its sense of history...
This is not only a shining example of a Victorian "Crazy Quilt" but it is also a Civil War Memorial Quilt. Throughout the composition, there are many different silk pennants and silk
memento scraps from Reunion balls and other printed material which gives one a sense of the significance of this important record of so so many moments past. The Artistic merit speaks for itself and the sense of History it imbues is really amazing! The quilt will be specially wrapped and insured for its voyage to your home. It can also be gift wrapped if it is to become a special heirloom for someone spec1al...Thank you for perusing my shop!
