Handsome set of Alexander Backer Oriental bookends from the Art Deco era feature aqua, cream, black and gold hand-painted on chalkware. An Asian man and woman sit or stand on a stack of books, as he peeks over the top and she reads a book with Chinese characters.

Back corner of her book shows paint loss; she has three small chips at her left hand and book corner. He is near-perfect, from his painted wire ponytail to his slippered feet. A gorgeous set, and 80 years old!

Measures 8" high at his tallest, bases are 3-1/2" x 4-1/2". Fabulous details and excellent overall condition. Nice, heavy weight. Felted bases have original foil labels: ABCO Hand Painted, Made in USA, Alexander Backer Co. NY.
