Behind the Craft:
Welcome to my studio, where raw earth transforms into functional art. Every piece begins as a flat slab of fine porcelain clay shaped completely by hand, focusing on creating a handle that offers a comfortable grip. Magic happens after the first firing, when I apply a red iron oxide wash and wipe it back by hand to highlight the intricate woodland textures. I then complement this earthy detail with a mossy green glaze inside the piece and along the rim.

Finally, the pottery is fired to Cone 10 (2,350°F) in a large gas reduction kiln. Unlike automated electric kilns, this traditional 40-hour process relies entirely on instinct—watching the flame, listening to the roar, and adjusting the atmosphere by hand. This careful double-firing results in durable, chip-resistant, and food-safe pottery made to bring the quiet beauty of the forest into your everyday life.

Please note: This is a fully hand built porcelain item. Natural variations in the glaze, oxide and carving details are to be expected. Because the clay moves naturally under extreme heat during the gas firing, the rims are beautifully organic and may not form a perfectly geometric circle.
