She heard the carriage pull up in front of the house, but as she drew back the lace curtain, she realized, with a sigh, that it was not James. Prudentia returned to the tea table to sip her cup of tea from her new cup and saucer, admiring the beautiful blue flowers as she set it down to try some fresh tea cakes. She ate one thoughtfully while she considered how to respond to James. She rather thought that she would tell him, "Yes!"

The details on this cup and saucer are absolutely exquisite! Hand painted blue flowers with green variegated stems and leaves adorn both the saucer and cup, and the edges of the saucer and cup have gilding as does the handle, with a bit of an Etruscan feeling to the gilded handle design. There is no damage that I can find to the piece outside of a bit of wear to the paint, in particular where the cup sits on the saucer.

The piece is marked with the Minton mark on the cup base that dates it to between 1873 and 1890. The cypher on the base of the saucer looks like the one for 1880, so that would fit the age range of the mark. The sterling cake server in one photo is not included in this listing, but is available in my other listings if it hasn't sold yet.

Why not take your tea or coffee in a little piece of history? This cup and saucer is still as serviceable as it ever was, yet gives a thrill when one realizes how very old and precious it actually is.
