Several years ago I heard the adage, "If a bird lands on your head, don't let it nest there". To me this means that if you get a bad/negative thought in your head, shoo it away before it takes root and grows. I have several pieces that I have played around with this imagery and intend to have many more. Of course she also looks very pensive and relaxed, so bring your own interpretation as well!

I also have a little homage to my grandmother in this piece with the french twist in the back. Grandma was always dressed and groomed to perfection and I think she had the hive hair-do up until about 2005, when her hands would no longer cooperate. I always appreciated her elegance.

This piece is built out of a red earthenware clay and fired to cone 06. I build hollow, like a coil pot except I use small slabs of clay joined and shaped. She is glazed with Duncan glazes and Amaco Velvets on the dove.
