This life-size sculpture consists of thousands of metal screws, chrome and silver parts. More than 600 hours went into her creation. The assemblage of "Maria" utilized hundreds of metal objects ranging from a martini shaker – to a kazoo.

No detail was spared in her creation. Each of her hands is comprised of a full set of antique typewriter keys, held in place with screws and resin. Her face is a mosaic of hundreds of tiny mirrored tiles. Her jetpacks are gutted out modified lava lamps which can be removed to facilitate shipment. Maria’s dimensions are 75”x25”x19”. Her weight is approximately 75 pounds. She is modular to some degree and breaks down at the waist.

Although originally inspired by Fritz Lang’s 1926 film, “Metropolis” Maria’s concept drastically evolved over the 14 months it took me to complete her. Maria has come to represent many things to me which parallel my own life: Strength, tenacity, and fearlessness. Maria is a survivor, a warrior, a woman.

I photographed "Maria"on the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah.
