Antique Stanhope Thimble 1880 Rare Peep Thimble Microphotography Fourth Bridge of Scotland thimble collector. Stanhope thimble created by Henry William Purcell has four images of the Forth bridge of Scotland when you look through the glass bead at the top of the thimble. The picture is surprisingly clear and unnoticeable from the exterior. The Stanhope image is only the size of a pin head yet holding it up to the light you can clearly see the Forth bridge of Scotland built at the end of the 19th century. Besides the images of the forth bridge, clearly written:
Dimensions of Bridge
Total length 8296 feet, over 1 1/2 miles North and South. Span 1710 feet. Highest part of bridge above high water 361 ft.
McKee Dublin Made in France

The number 2 is stamped on thimble. Thimble measures 1 inch in height by 1/2 inch in diameter at base.
The Stanhope lens was invented by Charles Stanhope (1753-1816).
The image inside the thimble is amazing. I have copied a similar image of one of the four bridge images inside the thimble. see last photo.
