Copper Deer Necklace - Antique Wax Seal Necklace - Stag Medallion Charm

ORIGINS:
This pendant is made using a wax seal of unknown origin featuring a stag’s head, from a large collection acquired at auction. Although the origin of the seal is unknown, the elements in the design carry meaning.

MEANING OF SYMBOLS:
The seal depicts the head of a deer, or stag. In heraldry, the stag was used to symbolise one who will not fight unless provoked; peace and harmony.

SEAL:
This seal is made out of copper, and hand stamped with a wax seal with an stag’s head. Each seal is stamped, sanded, polished and oxidized for an antique look. Because they are hand-stamped individually and made to order, these pendants are truly unique, and no two pendants are the same (unlike silver pendants cast from a mold). Also available in Silver.

DIMENSIONS: The seal is approximately 1.5″ across.
This listing is for the PENDANT ONLY.

CHAIN LENGTH: If you choose to purchase the pendant on a chain, the chain is sterling silver or pure copper, 16″ long. You can purchase the chain here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/93459410/pure-copper-chain-necklace-16-or-18)

-----------------------------------------------------------
This pendant reminds me of Sir Thomas Wyatt's poem, Whoso List To Hunt, which he wrote about Anne Boleyn (who left him to marry King Henry VIII). He likens her to a deer that he's trying to catch.

Whoso list to hunt, I know where is an hind, / But as for me, helas! I may no more. / The vain travail hath worried me so sore, / I am of them that furthest come behind. / Yet may I by no means, my worried mind / Draw from the deer; but as she fleeth afore / Fainting I follow. I leave off therefore, / Since in a net I seek to hold the wind. / Who list her hunt, I put him out of doubt, / As well as I, may spend his time in vain; / And graven in diamonds in letters plain / There is written, her fair neck round about, / "Noli me tangere, for Caesar's I am, / And wild to hold, though I seem tame." - Whoso List to Hunt (Sir Thomas Wyatt)
