Anubis, the jackal-headed god, is among the most widely-recognized of ancient Egyptian deities. He is associated with death and the afterlife, embalmers, mummification, protection of the dead, resurrection, cemeteries and tombs, and justice.

In ancient Egypt, it was Anubis who, (as all my beloved psychopomps do), guided the souls of the dead to the afterlife. There he would weigh the soul (usually shown as a heart) against the white ostrich feather of truth on golden scales:
One with a bad soul, heavier than a feather, would be eaten by Ammit, the Devourer of Souls.
But one with a good, light soul would go on to "heaven".

The Greeks associated Anubis with their god Hermes, and so a fusion of the two, called Hermanubis, was born. Anubis was also associated with St, Christopher, who was often shown with the head of a canine and associated with safe travels. One could also draw comparisons with Eleggua, Papa Legba, and even St. Peter as the guardian of the gates.

All gods who travel between the world of the living and the dead, can be seen as residing in liminal spaces...the in-betweens. This is what makes Anubis an excellent energy for road-opening and crossroads magick.
It is his role as judge of souls that helps one attain justice and reap their "good karma" for lack of a better term.
This role also pertains to us, the living, as we cope with death in our lives...making him an excellent entity to turn to when mourning the loss of a loved one and praying for the safe departure of their soul.
Anubis is also clearly well-suited for ancestor work, shadow work, necromancy, and any magick involving death, change, travel, judgment, or rebirth.
He was also called upon for vengeance and protection, as he could appraise the value of one's actions, as well as their heart and soul.

Anubis was the mummifier, judge, and protector of the dead, and so he assists with all of our journeys from one state to the next.

Each one of these candles is made to order, and comes with an Ankh (the ancient Egyptian symbol for life, everlasting life, afterlife, and the resuscitation of souls) charm tied around the top of the vase. This may be worn, displayed in the home, or simply carried with u as a symbol of the balance between life and death, the eternity of the soul, the heaviness of the heart, or simply to aid in your magickal journeys whatever they may be.
