Quan Yin Shrine/Altar (qy003), Bodhissatva of Compassion aka Goddess Tara, by DIza Hope/Nansee New of Casa Luz

Kuan Yin has roots in Japan, China, Tibet, Mongolia and India. She is the Goddess of compassion and mercy. Also known as the female Buddha, Kannon, and the Tibetan Goddess Tara, she teaches the softening of the heart through forgiveness. She shows the way of compassion and freedom from illusion. Guan Yin is also the protector of women, sailors and children. The story goes that upon approaching the gates of heaven she heard the cries of the suffering on the earth and vowed to stay here until all beings are free. This is the vow of the Bodhisattva.

This Goddess Altar contains a quality print of the beautiful painting by Diza Hope is showcased in a handmade clay frame that has been painted with acrylic paints and adorned with beads.

The Shrine/Altar Series is a collection of collaborations between myself and other women artists - in this case Brooklyn artist Diza Hope. Each shrine or altar contains an image of a cultural, spiritual or shamanic figure. These iconographic “way-showers” provide a window into other cultures, beliefs and ways of understanding life and our diverse cultural and spiritual heritage.

Although many of the Shrines are similar, all pieces are individually made with differences in design, bead work, and decorative motif.

The image measures 3 1/2" x 3 3/4"
This piece measures 8" x 4 3/4" x 1 1/2"
The beads are amber, glass, bone, ceramic shell and a carved lotus flower of bone.
