Up for your consideration today is an adorable Depression-Era feedsack infant/toddler dress. Women collected the various patterns of feedsacks to turn into useful items around the house as well as clothing. It's funny when I talk with people who lived during that time period and they turn their noses down at feedsacks, but especially the clothes. "They were itchy," some have said. "I just wished I could have had store-bought clothing," said another. But for those of us who never lived in those days, finding feedsack clothing is quite a treat.

This dress measures 15" long and is 10" wide at the bust area. Really, this piece is more for display because it has a few very worn spots, a couple of holes and some repair that was done in black thread; I'm sure with whatever was lying around at the time. There are also some stains that may come out with a soaking in Borax Detergent. If you are displaying this, I think the wear and stains add great historical character.

The dress was hand-sewn and comes from a central Missouri farmhouse. It would be adorable displayed in a child's room, or even with other vintage clothing. I collect feedsacks, and rarely come across the actual clothing that was made, so this is a real treat. We are a non-smoking environment. Enjoy!
