Measurements: 5" x 7" x 3.25"

Made of woven bamboo with bronze hinges, handles, and clasp. Corners are protected with hand sewn triangles of leather.

The bronze clasp is delicately engraved with a design of dots. Some of the engraving is worn away where the bronze pin was repeatedly inserted and removed.

Complete and without damage; retaining its golden brown patina and rice paper lining.

A note inside the box indicated that this basket/bento box was used in the Japanese countryside to carry luncheon rice cakes.

Dating to the Meiji or Taisho period.
